If you are from the Panhandle area or actively look for cool things to do in Texas you might have heard of Palo Duro Canyon. It is the second largest canyon in the United States, next to the Grand Canyon. The cool thing is that you can actually drive down into it, unlike the Grand Canyon (or so I am told.) When we would come to Amarillo to visit my cousins and grandparents when we were younger my uncle would always load all of us kids up and take us out there to play in the creek and explore to give our mommas a break. Such great memories of hanging out with my cousins and getting muddy!
As I grew older I went through the phase of thinking that Palo Duro Canyon was way lame and totally boring. After all I wasn't much of the hiking type. But now that I have been around PD more I am kind of recognizing all the cool things to go do out there and am especially excited to go camping in a month or two.
My love, Drew was born here in the Panhandle but has NEVER been to PD. Sunday we decided that it would be a great day to head out there and see what we could find to do and enlighten him on his surroundings.
He is SOO excited to finally be going out to PD. I of course acted like I was an expert and talked about stuff I didn't really know the whole time... gotta make him think I am super smart!
We drove around the entire park and saw all the kiddies playing in the water and all the crazies biking up mountain sides. It was the hottest day thus far this year and Drew wore flip flops (clearly a first timer :))
We did get out to document our adventure together though! Not the best picture but you take what you can get ( I really should have put makeup on, oh the regrets you live with )
He was especially excited about seeing the Longhorns at the front gate. Like a kid in a candy store.
My car was acting a little silly and like a good man he got out to fix the problems and check everything. I have sure LOVED not having to pay for oil changes since we have been dating since he takes care of it all for me.
We had a great time out and about and spent the rest of the day looking for Toms shoes for men... which they do not sell much of here in Amarillo.
Drew has good style but he is not a "trendy" dresser. He likes what he likes and to the best of my abilities to get him to buy some Air Max's he has defyed me. I was super stocked when he out of the blue told me he wanted to get some Toms to sport with his shorts... and not just boring ole black but green ones! You gotta jump on that while the iron is hot to get him to be a little bit more of the hippie trendy type that I am. I am so excited for him to sport them around, I think more excited than he is. I will get some cute photos when he is rocking them. Maybe one of these days he will get facebook.
